Did you know that snoring may have a connection with smoking? A lot of people realise all the latent health hazards associated with smoking. But aside from the generally known things like cancer, it could also lead to a snoring trouble.
Smokers have a high likelihood of being snorers too. Smoking induces swelling in the tissue of the nose and throat, as well as damaging the lungs. Nicotine can as well make disruptions in sleep that can lead to snoring.
A group of European researchers analyzed snoring in a group of smokers between twenty-five and fifty-five years old. They analyzed 15,000 people from 5 different countries to check if they can get a link between smoking and snoring.
Out of the study group, twenty-four% of the people who presently smoked and twenty% of the people who smoked in the past suffered from snoring troubles. This was compared to fourteen percent of the people who did not smoke. They found that the more a person smoked, the louder their snoring.
Second-hand smoke also made a higher likelihood of snoring. Twenty percent of the people who livesomebodysomeone who smoked also snored.
if you smoke or are constantly exposed to environmental smoke (passive smoking) you’re more potential to be a chronic snorer. The chief idea behind these findings is that the chemicals contained in tobacco smoke can irritate the linings of the airways.
Another interesting truth they uncovered was that more men smoked but the female smokers had a higher risk of snoring.
So just what is it about smoking that contributes to snoring troubles? They didn’t come up with a conclusive answer to that question, but among the theories is that the irritation to the air passage* stimulated by smoking contributes to problem breathing, which successively contributes to snoring.
Another theory is that the body experiences nicotine withdrawal when asleep, which disturbs the sleeping pattern. This disturbance leads to the snoring.
So you are able to add one more reason for stopping smoking. Not only does it damage your health and your body, it could contribute to snoring problems which can finally contribute to drowsiness, irritability and stress (in both you and your family).
